  227. Opens up the following bands
  228. - 110-180MHz Tx+Rx
  229. - 400-500MHz Tx+Rx
  230. - 800-950MHz Rx Only
  231.  
  232. *Remove antenna and battery
  233. *Remove four screws on botton holding battery track.
  234. *Remove the four (black) screws holding rear case.
  235. *Slowly... open the front cover from transceiver and lay both halves on table.
  236. *Note positioning of white paper insulator and lift out (do not throw away).
  237. *Carefully locate Jumper Pad 13 and remove solder (shown in diagram).
  238. *Re-install white paper insulator, make sure the ground tab goes through ok.
  239. *Close radio back up (Careful not to pinch the ribbon cable when closing)
  240. *Re-install screws.
  241. *Attach antenna and battery
  242. *Turn off radio.... Press and hold both arrow keys while turning radio on.
  243. *MOD Complete!

  246. following configuration.

  261. Removing solder from pad 13 and removing diode from pad 15 will allow Rx only.

  292. If I recember correctly, Bob had a business relationship with AEA; I don't
  293. recall that he mentioned anything about a business relationship with CT.
  294. What I *do* recall is that when Bob inquired about an API for the CT card,
  295. they offered to sell it to him for $5K.  Yikes!

  297. I think Bob was trying to make a point about open versus closed systems.  The
  298. open system vendor assumes that it will realize more revenue by making its API
  299. available at a reasonable cost (or none at all) because developers will write
  300. applications that will generate more harware sales, while the closed system
  301. vendor views its API as an alternate source of revenue.  Unfortunately,
  302. developers who pay $5K for an API generally sell their software for a pretty
  303. hefty sum, and this certainly won't benefit anyone with regard to the ham
  304. market since, as we all know, hams are notoriously tight with a penny.

  306. Personally, I'm with Bob on this one.  My only application to date for sound
  307. is to have my PC make cute little noises when I drag a file to the trash can;
  308. I'm quite satisfied with the PC speaker driver for this purpose, and as a
  309. result I don't currently own a sound card.  I'll buy one just as soon as some
  310. good ham-oriented freeware and shareware apps become available, and I'll buy
  311. whichever card that software runs on.  After reading Bob's message, however, I
  312. kinda doubt that it will be a SoundBlaster16 ASP.
